Ireland batter Rebecca Stokell accepts voluntary suspension for anti-doping breach
The 26-year-old player admitted to a violation involving prescription medication following an in-competition test.
Ireland women's batter Rebecca Stokell has entered a voluntary suspension after admitting to breaching the International Cricket Council (ICC) anti-doping code, according to reports by India TV and The Hawk.
The violation occurred after a sample provided during an in-competition test on 23 June returned an adverse finding for a specified substance. The ICC stated that the breach arose from Stokell's use of prescription medication.
Cricket Ireland described the incident as an inadvertent breach of reporting requirements and noted that the substance used was non-performance enhancing. The player's voluntary suspension became effective on 23 October 2026, pending the outcome of the disciplinary process.
Stokell, who has played 29 ODIs and 80 WT20Is, apologised for the mistake. She said she understands her responsibility to follow anti-doping guidelines and expressed hope to return to playing for Ireland as soon as possible.
Graeme West, director of high performance at Cricket Ireland, said the organisation has provided support to the player. He added that the incident serves as a reminder to international players that anti-doping rules protect both the sport and the athletes.
The ICC said it will not make further comments until the matter is finally resolved.
