Gujarat installs 9.08 lakh rooftop solar systems to meet targets
The state has achieved 90 per cent of its goal to install 10 lakh residential rooftop solar systems by March 2027.
Gujarat has installed 9.08 lakh residential rooftop solar systems under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, according to ANI. These installations have a total capacity of 3,408 MW, making the state a leader in rooftop solar adoption.
The state has reached 90 per cent of its target to install 10 lakh residential rooftop solar systems by March 2027. Gujarat currently accounts for 18.21 per cent of the total rooftop solar systems installed across India.
To encourage adoption, the Gujarat government provides financial assistance and regulatory incentives. Residential consumers installing systems up to 6 kW receive Rs 2,950 towards regulatory charges, while network strengthening charges and net metering agreement requirements are waived.
The state also provides additional assistance for small consumers. Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) households installing systems up to 2.18 kilowatt-peak (kWp) pay only 5 per cent of the cost, while other consumers contribute 10 per cent.
As of September 30, the state's total renewable energy capacity is 55,511.46 MW, which is 18.55 per cent of the national total. This includes a solar energy capacity of 36,234.55 MW and a wind energy capacity of 17,043.76 MW.
