Three BSF personnel and local youth injured in Tripura clash

The confrontation in Sepahijala district followed allegations that security forces detained and assaulted a local man during a vegetation-clearing operation.

Three Border Security Force (BSF) personnel and a local youth were injured during a clash between security forces and residents in Tripura's Sepahijala district on Monday, according to reports from The Assam Tribune, India Today and The Hindu.

The incident occurred near Natun Bazar under the Kalamchoura police station after villagers blocked the Ashabari-Rahimpur road. The protest was held following allegations that BSF personnel detained and assaulted a local youth, Hefzur Rahman, during a vegetation-clearing operation.

The injured BSF personnel include Assistant Commandant Rohit Kumar, driver Sunil Kumar and personnel Manjit. The BSF vehicle, belonging to the 49th Battalion, was reportedly attacked with sticks and bamboo, with India Today reporting that the vehicle's windshield was smashed.

The injured youth, who reportedly sustained a leg fracture, was also admitted to a hospital. The BSF personnel were initially taken to Boxanagar Hospital before being referred to Tripura Medical College in Agartala for further treatment.

Police from Kalamchoura and personnel from the Ashabari BSF Border Outpost arrived to control the situation. A security deployment including armed police and Tripura State Rifles personnel was made to restore normalcy in the area.

Cases have been filed by both sides at the local police station. An investigation into the detention of Rahman and the subsequent clash has been initiated.
