Gujarat grant-in-aid school employees threaten statewide protest from November 25
A committee representing school staff has demanded the cancellation of recent recruitment committee appointments and the resolution of long-standing grievances.
Employees of grant-in-aid schools in Gujarat have threatened to launch a statewide agitation starting on November 25 if the state government does not address their pending demands, according to The Times of India.
The committee representing the employees sent a letter to the chief minister objecting to an October 23 order. This order appointed three members to the body responsible for recruiting academic staff in non-government aided secondary and higher secondary schools.
The committee alleged that the appointments favoured a specific organisation and individuals who had opted for voluntary retirement. They further claimed that other recognised organisations with much larger memberships were denied representation.
The committee stated that no satisfactory progress has been made on the long-standing demands of teachers, principals, administrative staff, and school managements, even after the new council of ministers completed one year in office.
The group alleged that previous cabinet-level discussions and assurances have not resulted in concrete action. They warned that they would launch a Gandhian-style protest if the issues are not resolved by the start of the new academic session on November 25.
