ED summons former TN minister C Vijayabaskar and wife

The Enforcement Directorate is investigating allegations that the former health minister accumulated assets worth Rs 35.79 crore.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has issued fresh summons to former Tamil Nadu Health Minister C Vijayabaskar and his wife, V Ramya, for questioning in Chennai. According to reports from South First, The Hawk and The New Indian Express, the summons relate to an investigation into alleged disproportionate assets.

Vijayabaskar, who is currently the Pudukkottai district organising secretary for the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), is required to attend the agency's zonal office on Friday, 6 November. His wife, V Ramya, has been called for questioning next week.

The money laundering probe stems from a case registered by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) regarding wealth allegedly amassed during Vijayabaskar's tenure as Health and Family Welfare Minister between 2016 and 2021. In a May 2023 chargesheet, the DVAC alleged the former minister had accumulated assets valued at Rs 35.79 crore.

This marks the second round of questioning for the couple, as both had previously provided statements to investigators in 2024. The ED also conducted searches at Vijayabaskar's residence in Illuppur, Pudukkottai district, on 21 March 2024.

Vijayabaskar previously served as an AIADMK MLA representing Viralimalai. He later resigned from the AIADMK to join the TVK.
