Traders body seeks ban on Delhi protests until November 11
The Chamber of Trade and Industry reported losses of Rs 14,000 crore due to rallies and demonstrations in the capital.
The Chamber of Trade and Industry (CTI) has written to Delhi Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar requesting that no rallies, sit-ins, or protests be permitted in Delhi until November 11. According to a report by Moneycontrol, the body seeks to prevent demonstrations during the upcoming festive period.
CTI Chairman Brijesh Goyal told news agency PTI that Delhi businesses lost Rs 14,000 crore between October 1 and November 1 due to large-scale protests and demonstrations. Goyal stated that approximately Rs 3,000 crore was lost between October 1 and October 30, while a mega rally on November 1 resulted in losses of around Rs 11,000 crore.
The traders' body requested the police to ensure no demonstrations occur at locations including Jantar Mantar, Ramlila Maidan, India Gate, Patel Chowk, and Connaught Place. The CTI noted these areas are significant commercial centres in Central Delhi, Old Delhi, and other parts of the capital containing many large markets.
Goyal said that businesses are unable to sustain further financial hits as Dhanteras falls on November 6, Diwali on November 8, and Bhai Dooj on November 10 and 11. He noted that the Rahul Gandhi-led INDIA bloc rally caused significant damage to businesses despite requests from traders to postpone gatherings during the festive season.
