Cyclone Murasu causes destruction in coastal Andhra Pradesh
Heavy rainfall and strong winds uprooted trees and damaged boats as the storm made landfall on Tuesday morning.
Severe cyclonic storm Murasu caused widespread destruction in coastal Andhra Pradesh after making landfall near Kothapatnam in Prakasam district at 1 a.m. on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, according to The Hindu.
The storm uprooted thousands of trees, damaged hundreds of electric poles, and wrecked fishing boats. In Prakasam district, several thatched houses collapsed and residents were stranded at Samatha Nagar in Ongole, prompting rescue operations by the district administration.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu reviewed the situation via teleconference and directed officials to prevent loss of life. While energy department officials reported no power disruptions or fallen poles, a statue of Andhra Kesari Tanguturi Prakasam Panthulu in the Ongole Collectorate premises collapsed after a tree fell on it.
The Real Time Governance Society (RTGS) has launched a grievance reporting mechanism through its ‘Mana Mitra’ WhatsApp platform. Residents can report emergencies such as waterlogging or uprooted trees by messaging 9552300009.
In Odisha, Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari said the state remains on high alert due to landslide risks. The government has shifted more than 1.60 lakh people to safety in five southern districts as light rainfall was reported in areas including Koraput and Malkangiri.
