NTT DATA plans expansion into Mangaluru and Udupi

The company discussed technology investments and digital infrastructure with IT Minister Priyank Kharge to support the Beyond Bengaluru initiative.

Japan-based IT services firm NTT DATA discussed plans to grow its operations in Karnataka with IT-BT Minister Priyank Kharge on Monday, according to reports from Urban Acres and Deccan Herald. The discussions focused on expanding the company's presence in the coastal regions of Mangaluru and Udupi.

The company, which recently acquired Karnataka-based Niveus Solutions and WinWire, identified the availability of skilled talent in these areas as a primary advantage for its expansion. The talks included topics such as data centres, cloud services, digital infrastructure, and startup collaboration.

Minister Kharge stated that the Beyond Bengaluru programme aims to create regional technology hubs by investing in infrastructure, policy, and skill development. He noted that the government intends to move opportunities to where talent is located to drive growth in emerging clusters.

The meeting also covered the state's Sustainable Data Centre Policy and the proposed Mangaluru cable landing station. Kharge encouraged NTT DATA to look into sectors such as healthcare, biotechnology, life sciences, and automotive manufacturing.

The minister also invited the company to support the state's startup ecosystem through the Government First programme, which allows startups to pilot solutions with government departments. He also mentioned his 'Let’s Talk Tech Karnataka' initiative to engage with the technology community.
