Tusshar Kapoor receives Rs 5 crore extortion threat from gang impersonator
Mumbai Police suspect the caller used the Lawrence Bishnoi gang's name to frighten the actor after voice samples failed to match.
Actor Tusshar Kapoor has allegedly received an extortion call demanding Rs 5 crore from an individual claiming to be Harry Boxer of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, according to Outlook and Sambad English.
The actor reported the threat to the Mumbai Police, who subsequently forwarded the complaint to the Crime Branch and the Anti-Extortion Cell for investigation.
Technical analysis conducted by the Crime Branch's team found that the voice in the audio recording did not match the official voice samples of Harry Boxer held in the police database.
Senior police officers stated that the discrepancy suggests the call may have been a hoax intended to intimidate the actor using the gang's reputation.
Mumbai Police sources told news agencies that officers are currently searching for the individual who sent the audio recording.
Investigators are working to determine if the incident was an isolated act by a miscreant or if an organised gang was involved.
