Supreme Court allows green firecrackers in Delhi-NCR on November 7-8

The court permitted specific time slots for bursting green crackers ahead of Diwali, which falls on November 8.

The Supreme Court has permitted the bursting of green firecrackers in the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR) on November 7 and 8, according to BusinessLine. The permission is valid for the time slots of 6 to 7 am and 8 to 10 pm.

A bench comprising Justices M M Sundresh and Prasanna B Varale directed that fireworks must not be used within 300 metres of any notified silence zones, old-age homes, nursing homes, hospitals, or primary and district health centres.

The court stated in its October 29 order that the previous complete ban on firecrackers will be reinstated starting November 9, 2026. The bench also prohibited the sale or manufacture of garlands and firecrackers joined in series, known as 'ladis'.

Manufacturers holding valid certification from PESO and CSIR-NEERI are allowed to produce only those green crackers listed on the CSIR-NEERI website between November 2, 2026, and November 6, 2026. The use of Barium or any crackers not approved by CSIR-NEERI as green crackers is not permitted.

The bench has instructed authorities in the Delhi-NCR region to take measures to prevent the movement of conventional and illegal firecrackers.
