IMD issues yellow alert for parts of western Maharashtra

Pune and surrounding areas saw light showers on Sunday morning as the IMD predicts more rain across the region.

Pune and its neighbouring areas experienced light showers in the early hours of Sunday, according to The Times of India.

Data from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) showed that between 8.30am on November 1 and the previous 24 hours, the NDA observatory saw the most rain at 3mm. Shirur reported 2mm, Ambegaon recorded 1.5mm, while Bhor and Malin saw 0.5mm each, and Pashan saw 0.4mm.

Weather conditions in western Maharashtra have been variable, with isolated rain in Pune, Kolhapur, Satara, Sangli, and Solapur districts. A senior IMD official said a yellow alert has been issued for Kolhapur, Satara, and parts of the Konkan region.

The IMD forecast light to moderate rain with thunder, lightning, and gusty winds for those specific areas. Officials stated that a well-marked low-pressure area over the southeast and southwest Bay of Bengal is drawing moisture toward the southern and western peninsular regions.

A senior IMD official said these overlapping meteorological conditions are causing intermittent rainfall spells and localised cloud formation across parts of Maharashtra.
