A Learjet 60 travelling from Texas to the Bahamas crashed in Greenacres on Sunday, according to the Times of India.
A business jet carrying nine people crashed and exploded near a busy road in Greenacres, Palm Beach County, on Sunday, according to the Times of India. US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said all nine people on board the aircraft were killed in the incident.
The Bahamas-bound Learjet 60 had taken off from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas. Air traffic control recordings show the pilot reported turbulence, precipitation, and ice before declaring an emergency as the aircraft lost altitude.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis described the event as a cataclysmic plane crash at the scene. He noted that no one on the ground was reported injured or killed, though the impact left a large crater by the roadside.
The Federal Aviation Administration is sending a team to help the National Transportation Safety Board investigate the crash. Authorities evacuated approximately 600 people from a nearby mobile home community as a precaution.
The crash occurred at 12:50 pm during heavy rain in the region. The National Weather Service had a flood watch in effect until Monday afternoon.
