NPO seeks inquiry into recovery of two Kuki bodies in Senapati
Frontal organisations led by the Naga People’s Organisation have demanded a transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the recovery of two missing individuals.
Frontal organisations led by the Naga People’s Organisation (NPO) have demanded an impartial probe into the recovery of two missing Kuki bodies from SP Road in Senapati district, according to NENow.
At a press conference on Sunday, the groups called for a clear inquiry to determine the sequence of events and check if legal procedures were followed. NPO president Kuba Peter said the organisations condemn all violence regardless of the victims' identity, but noted that the recovery circumstances need clarification.
Peter questioned if authorities complied with Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023. He asked if an inquest was held with local witnesses and if the executive magistrate and district authorities were informed.
The NPO also highlighted conflicting reports regarding the timeline. Peter stated a state newspaper reported the bodies were retrieved early Saturday morning, while police said the recovery happened on Sunday morning.
The organisations raised concerns regarding Senapati Additional Superintendent of Police (Law and Order) Thangkhochon Haokip and his past handling of communal matters. Peter asked if the operation followed the law or if there was an attempt to shift blame onto the local population.
The NPO stated an independent investigation is necessary to establish facts, prevent communal tensions, and ensure the people of Senapati are not unfairly held responsible.
