Karnataka Historical Atlas offers interactive digital way to explore state history
The Sanchaya initiative provides maps and timelines covering the region's history from 269 BC to 1973.
A new digital project called the ‘Karnataka Historical Atlas’ has been launched to help people explore the history of Karnataka through maps, timelines and historical records, according to the Deccan Herald.
Developed by Sanchaya, a digital initiative working with Kannada and technology, the platform covers the period from 269 BC to 1973, the year Mysore State was renamed Karnataka.
The project includes information on kingdoms, rulers, inscriptions, monuments, literature, the freedom movement and district histories. It offers an English-language interface and is accessible at https://karnata.sanchaya.net.
Sanchaya founder Omshivaprakash H L said the goal is to help people understand history through geographical and chronological contexts instead of just memorising dates.
Omshivaprakash said the atlas aims to show how specific people, places or events connect to certain regions and time periods.
The platform provides references to original sources where records exist to help users check historical claims and compare different evidence. Omshivaprakash described the atlas as an ongoing experiment and has invited feedback and suggestions from users.
