IndiGo sees opportunities despite challenging industry conditions, says CEO Willie Walsh
The airline expects to receive wide-body A350 aircraft from the second quarter of 2028 to target the long haul market.
IndiGo CEO Willie Walsh said on Monday that the airline sees many opportunities and intends to manage current industry challenges by focusing on a strong cost base. Speaking at his first in-person briefing since becoming CEO in August, Walsh noted that the industry faces a difficult situation due to rising fuel costs, according to The Hindu.
The airline reported a loss of Rs 1,879.1 crore in the September quarter, which was attributed to rupee depreciation and higher fuel costs. During this period of headwinds, the carrier also lowered its capacity.
Walsh stated that IndiGo possesses the necessary components to succeed in the long haul market. He mentioned that the company expects to begin receiving wide-body A350 aircraft starting from the second quarter of 2028.
Regarding the Navi Mumbai airport, Walsh said the facility offers significant potential for the airline. He explained that moving some international flights was a move made to benefit the company.
IndiGo currently maintains an operational fleet of more than 400 aircraft and conducts over 2,100 daily flights.
