Gujarat installs 9.08 lakh rooftop solar systems to meet targets

The state has achieved 90 per cent of its goal to install 10 lakh residential rooftop solar systems by March 2027.

Gujarat has installed 9.08 lakh residential rooftop solar systems, according to a report by ANI. The state currently accounts for 18.21 per cent of the total rooftop solar systems installed across India.

The total installed capacity from these systems is 3,408 MW. With this progress, Gujarat has reached 90 per cent of its target to install 10 lakh residential rooftop solar systems by March 2027.

The state government provides financial assistance and regulatory incentives to expand solar adoption. For residential houses with systems up to 6 kW, an assistance of ₹2,950 is provided towards regulatory charges.

Under state provisions, consumers from Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) pay only 5 per cent of the prescribed cost for new systems up to 2.18 kilowatt-peak (kWp). Other consumers can install systems by contributing 10 per cent of the cost.

The state government bears the remaining benchmark cost after deducting the Central Government's financial assistance and the consumer's contribution. The state's solar policy also offers net metering, allowing households to sell surplus electricity back to the grid.

As of September 30 2026, Gujarat's total renewable energy capacity is 55,511.46 MW. This includes 36,234.55 MW of solar energy capacity and 17,043.76 MW of wind energy capacity.
