Gujarat CM inaugurates new cancer hospital in Patan
Ayushman Bharat cardholders will receive free PET scans at the newly opened P.B. Patan Janata Cancer Hospital.
Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel inaugurated the P.B. Patan Janata Cancer Hospital in Patan on Sunday. According to The Hawk, the facility is operated by the Jeevan Jyot Charitable Trust and aims to provide specialised cancer diagnostic and treatment services to residents of North Gujarat.
The hospital has acquired a Linear Accelerator (LINAC) machine for radiotherapy, costing approximately Rs 22 crore. It is also introducing Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scan services, which will be free for Ayushman Bharat cardholders.
Patel stated that while Patan is a healthcare centre, the region previously lacked specialised cancer facilities. He said the new hospital would reduce the necessity for patients to travel to Ahmedabad for treatment.
Managing trustee of Jeevan Jyot Charitable Trust, Dr Pramodbhai Patel, said the hospital has previously provided more than 15 lakh outpatient consultations and treated over 1.5 lakh inpatients. He noted the trust has also performed more than one lakh surgeries.
The trust plans to expand its super-speciality services in the coming years. Proposed additions include robotic surgery, cardiac surgery, and bone marrow and kidney transplantation, which are currently unavailable in North Gujarat.
During the event, the Chief Minister also discussed lifestyle-related diseases and urged citizens to adopt preventive healthcare and participate in initiatives like the 'Catch the Rain' campaign.
