Government notifies Bharatiya Vayuyan Niyam aviation rules for 2027

The new regulatory framework replaces the Aircraft Rules, 1937, to cover various aspects of the civil aviation sector.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation has notified a new regulatory framework for the civil aviation sector, according to Telangana Today. Known as Bharatiya Vayuyan Niyam, 2026, these rules are set to come into effect from January 1, 2027.

The new regulations will replace the Aircraft Rules, 1937, which have governed the industry for nearly nine decades. The framework establishes guidelines for aircraft registration, manufacturing, maintenance, flight activities, airport management, and the licensing of personnel.

Under the new rules, aircraft owners and airlines will have defined responsibilities. The provisions include requirements for airworthiness certification, design approvals, and mandatory regular inspections to ensure aircraft remain safe for operation throughout their life cycle.

The framework also outlines qualifications for pilots, air traffic controllers, and maintenance engineers, covering training, medical fitness, and licence renewal. To improve safety and prevent fatigue, the rules include limitations on flight and duty times for cabin crew and pilots.

Additionally, the regulations introduce fare transparency mandates. Starting next year, airlines must disclose the full ticket price, including a breakdown of base fares, taxes, fees, and refund or cancellation policies, with tariffs remaining under DGCA oversight.
