Goa to offer faster marriage registration for destination weddings
Chief minister Pramod Sawant said the state will soon issue certificates to couples hosting weddings in Goa upon request.
Goa will soon provide quick registration and issuance of marriage certificates to couples holding destination weddings in the state, according to The Times of India.
Chief minister Pramod Sawant said on Sunday that the 'anywhere marriage registration initiative' has been launched. He stated that the facility is expected to make Goa a more attractive destination wedding venue.
Sawant said software and physical infrastructure upgrades are currently being carried out in registration offices across the state. He noted that new premises have been selected for offices in Bardez, Pernem, Bicholim, Valpoi, and Quepem.
The chief minister also announced that pre-marriage counselling will be introduced across Goa soon. He said this is intended to help couples understand each other better and aim to reduce divorce rates.
Sawant mentioned that a new marriage certificate format is being prepared which will include coloured photographs of the couple. He said the department has also started issuing 'anywhere nil encumbrance certificates'.
The chief minister added that birth, death, society, and NGO registrations are also being streamlined as part of the improvements.
