Hyderabad police bust alleged egg donation racket and rescue 43 women
Nine people were arrested during raids across multiple locations in the Hyderabad and Malkajgiri commissionerates.
Hyderabad police have dismantled an alleged interstate network involved in recruiting women for egg donation procedures, according to reports by India Today, Deccan Chronicle and The Pioneer. During coordinated raids at several locations, including Begumpet, Erragadda, Saroornagar and Gopalapuram, officers rescued 43 women from West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and other states.
Investigators allege that women were lured to the city with promises of payments between Rs 20,000 and Rs 30,000 for each donation cycle. The women were reportedly housed in rented accommodations before being connected to fertility centres for procedures. Some women told investigators they had received hormonal injections and medicines in preparation for the extractions.
Police arrested eight people in connection with the Begumpet and Saroornagar cases, including suspected principal organiser Amit Sharma and recruiter Nikkat Parveen. Other detainees include Reshma Khatoon, Meghavath Srinivas alias Sonu, Jepray Pradeep, SK Parveen, Vijay Bhagwah Rao Salunke and Pankaj Soni. Businessman Emirishetty Durga Prasad was also arrested in Saroornagar.
Authorities seized medical supplies including five vials of Humog HP 150 IU injections, syringes, needles and tablets, alongside mobile phones and documents. The investigation is looking into suspected forgery of Aadhaar cards and consent forms, as well as potential links between the organisers and ART banks.
Three cases have been registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and the Assisted Reproductive Technology (Regulation) Act, 2021. The operation was supervised by Malkajgiri Police Commissioner B Sumathi, IPS.
