Delhi Police personnel protest against transfers of ACP and SHO
Around 100 officers gathered outside police headquarters to demand the reinstatement of two officers transferred following a scuffle at Shahdara police station.
Approximately 100 Delhi Police personnel, including women officers, gathered outside the police headquarters on Monday morning, November 2, 2026, to protest the transfers of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Manasvi Vashistha and Shahdara Station House Officer (SHO) Inspector Arun Kumar. According to The Hindu, the protesters held placards and posters, demanding that the two officers be reinstated to their previous postings.
The transfers were ordered on October 28, 2026, following a scuffle at Shahdara police station on October 23, 2026, during which an advocate allegedly sustained a head injury. The incident led to an indefinite strike by district court lawyers, who claimed they were initially promised an arrest but were later told the accused had been released. Lawyers also alleged that an officer brandished a loaded revolver during a meeting, though senior officials stated these allegations were false and unsupported by evidence.
Vashistha was moved from his post as Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Gandhi Nagar to the Special Police Unit for Women and Children (SPUWAC), while Kumar was transferred from Shahdara police station to the Delhi Police Security Branch. Protesters alleged the transfers were one-sided and could undermine force morale. New Delhi DCP Sachin Sharma and other senior officers attempted to persuade the personnel to take their grievances inside the headquarters.
Lieutenant Governor (L-G) Taranjit Singh Sandhu is scheduled to interact with police personnel, ranging from constables to inspectors, at Utsav Sadan, Kingsway Camp, on November 3. According to The Indian Express, the programme is set to begin at 4 pm, with various districts and specialised units directed to nominate personnel to attend the session.
