Cyclone Murasu to bring rain to south Bengal and Odisha

Light to moderate rainfall is expected in West Bengal while heavy rain is forecast for several districts in South Odisha.

Cyclone Murasu has developed into a cyclonic storm over the southeast Bay of Bengal and is expected to hit the south Andhra Pradesh coast on Tuesday, according to The Hawk. The system is predicted to cross the coast between Nellore and Araku on Tuesday morning with wind speeds of 100 to 110 kmph and gusts reaching 120 kmph.

The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Kolkata stated that while the cyclone will not directly hit West Bengal, its influence will bring scattered light to moderate rain to south Bengal districts including Kolkata, South 24 Parganas, East Midnapore, and West Midnapore until Wednesday.

In South Odisha, the weather impact is expected to intensify from November 2, according to Urban Acres. Manorama Mohanty, director of the RMC in Bhubaneswar, said rainfall could increase across the region from the day after the forecast.

Ganjam and Gajapati districts are expected to see heavy rain on November 2, while Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, and Malkangiri may experience very heavy rain on November 3 and 4. Wind gusts of up to 70 kmph are also forecast for November 3.

The RMC in Bhubaneswar expects rain intensity to decrease from November 5, after which rainfall will likely be limited to isolated locations. In West Bengal, dry weather is expected to prevail from November 5, with minimum temperatures potentially dropping by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius.
