Chittoor and Annamayya districts prepare for Cyclone Murasu
Officials have issued orange alerts for parts of South Andhra Pradesh as the storm is expected to impact the region over 48 hours.
Authorities in Chittoor and Annamayya districts are preparing for emergencies as Severe Cyclonic Storm Murasu is projected to impact South Andhra Pradesh over the next 48 hours, according to The Hindu.
While the core system is expected to make landfall between Nellore and Narsapur, the outer bands are projected to reach the interior Rayalaseema region. Chittoor district is under an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall through Monday and Tuesday.
Annamayya district, which began the week under a yellow warning, is expected to move to an orange alert on Tuesday. Officials warned that sudden rain could cause waterlogging in low-lying areas, overflowing streams, and localised flooding in rural pockets.
Annamayya district Collector Nishant Kumar said the district machinery has swung into action, with revenue, police, municipal, and disaster response teams stationed on high alert in flood-prone zones.
Chittoor Collector Sumit Kumar stated that the administration has issued advisories for residents to monitor official weather bulletins and remain cautious of fast-flowing streams and causeways. Monitoring teams have been formed for the Nagari, Nindra, Vijayapuram, and SR Puram mandals.
Farmers in the Nagari, Chittoor, and Palamaner revenue divisions and eastern Annamayya district have started measures to protect paddy, orchards, and vegetable plots. APSPDCL and civic officials were also instructed to prepare for potential power line snaps and roadblocks from uprooted trees.
