Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha flagged off the ‘Run for Unity’ at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar on Saturday, according to Greater Kashmir. The event was organised to mark Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, which is observed annually on the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
The run commenced from SKICC and was scheduled to conclude at the Botanical Garden in Srinagar. Participants, including students, youth, and officials, took the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas pledge to reaffirm their commitment to national unity, integrity and security.
In Panchkula, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini also flagged off a ‘Run for Unity’ at the HSVP Shivalik Country Club in MDC, Sector 1, as reported by The Tribune. Saini, who joined the participants in the run, paid tributes to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his 151st birth anniversary.
Saini stated that the event conveys a message that the nation is one and will uphold the unity and integrity of the country. He noted that Patel played a decisive role in integrating more than 560 princely states into the nation.
The Chief Minister urged the youth to verify the authenticity of social media messages and refrain from spreading rumours or content that promotes discrimination. He said that respecting every language and culture can strengthen national unity.
Saini added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken forward the vision of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’ inspired by Patel’s ideals. He administered the National Unity Day pledge to participants and dignitaries during the event.
