The Karnataka government on Monday invited Japanese companies to expand their operations in the state by leveraging its industrial infrastructure and skilled workforce, according to The Hindu.
Speaking at the fourth India-Japan Business Summit 2026 in Bengaluru, Principal Secretary of Commerce and Industries S. Selvakumar urged Japanese businesses to view the state as a long-term partner for innovation and global expansion.
Selvakumar stated that the state accounts for 65 per cent of India’s aerospace and defence manufacturing, 52 per cent of machine-tool manufacturing, 40 per cent of software exports and 40 per cent of electronic design activity.
He noted that Karnataka hosts over 800 research and development centres and more than 100 chip-design houses, offering incentives such as power tariff subsidies and support for land and machinery.
Consul General of Japan in Bengaluru Hiroshi Nawata said the state is home to over 500 Japanese establishments and more than 200 Japanese companies.
The Bangalore Chamber of Industry and Commerce (BCIC) signed agreements with HKBK College, Garden City College and Jain College to offer Japanese language training to engineering students during the summit.
