Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu on alert for cyclone Murasu

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has ordered officials to prepare for relief operations as a cyclonic storm approaches.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday instructed officials to prepare for rescue and relief work as cyclone Murasu approaches the coast. According to the Hindustan Times, the storm is expected to cross the coastline near Bapatla on the morning of November 3.

The cyclone is predicted to bring moderate to heavy rainfall to south and central coastal districts on November 2. On November 3 and 4, several areas may experience heavy to very heavy rain, with wind speeds reaching 110 kmph during landfall.

Naidu stated that officials must be ready for operations and move personnel and equipment to vulnerable locations. Preliminary estimates suggest strong winds could damage approximately 15,128 electricity poles across 12 districts.

In Tamil Nadu, the additional chief secretary and commissioner of revenue administration has told district collectors to mobilise administrative machinery. Heavy to very heavy rain is forecast for parts of Tiruvallur and Chennai on November 1 and 2.

Odisha disaster management Minister Suresh Pujari said the state is prepared and has issued a high alert for the southern region, including Ganjam. Orders have been given to evacuate people from hilly areas and low-lying regions.

The death toll from the previous cyclone, Arnab, rose to six in Odisha on Sunday. Officials are searching for 10 missing people after a landslide in Gidipabali village, located on the Ganjam and Kandhamal border.
