Andhra Pradesh commercial tax collections rise 20 per cent in October

Higher GST and petroleum VAT revenues contributed to the highest October collection since the introduction of GST, according to Chief Commissioner A. Babu.

Commercial tax collections in Andhra Pradesh grew by 20 per cent in October, according to The Hindu, reporting that higher GST and petroleum VAT revenues contributed to the increase.

Chief Commissioner of State Tax A. Babu said on Sunday that this was the highest October collection since the introduction of GST.

Gross GST collections grew 24 per cent, outpacing the national growth rate of 16 per cent, while State GST (SGST) collections increased 21 per cent. Net GST collections, including the State’s share of IGST settlements, rose 19 per cent compared to October the previous year.

Petroleum VAT revenue also registered a 23 per cent rise. Major contributors to the GST growth during October included automobiles, plastics, construction services, and iron and steel, Babu added.

Cumulative commercial tax collections for the April-October period increased 18 per cent over the same period last year. Babu attributed the growth to intensified enforcement, improved tax compliance, and the use of AI and Data Analytics to scrutinise returns and detect tax discrepancies.
