Jaishankar calls for diplomatic solutions and supply chain resilience at G20

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar emphasised peaceful dialogue and energy market stability during the G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Atlanta.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar advocated for negotiated settlements to global conflicts and diversified manufacturing supply chains at the G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Atlanta, according to The Tribune. Speaking on the proceedings, Jaishankar described the discussions on geopolitical challenges, energy, food security, and resilient supply chains as engaging and constructive.

During the first plenary session, Jaishankar stated that there are no military solutions to the two major ongoing conflicts and that a diplomatic pathway must be found. He noted that India's advocacy for peace resonated with several participating foreign ministers.

Addressing energy and food security, Jaishankar warned that the politicisation of energy flows and artificial disruptions are causing hardships, particularly for the Global South. He also pointed to grain shipment disruptions in the Black Sea and fertiliser shortages linked to tensions in the Persian Gulf and Red Sea corridors.

On the subject of industrial resilience, Jaishankar called for more diversified production to protect the global commercial architecture from systemic vulnerabilities. He urged the G20 to resist predatory practices and promote the right to industrialise.

Jaishankar further suggested that de-concentrating the global economy could discourage the weaponisation of finance, resources, and market share. He stated that G20 countries should work towards the de-politicisation of markets for the collective good.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Jaishankar met Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to discuss the Ukraine conflict and the Gulf situation. He also participated in the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Atlanta.
