Madhya Pradesh government hospitals to go paperless from November 1

The Health and Medical Education Department will implement a digital system for OPD registration, lab tests, and billing across all state hospitals.

The Madhya Pradesh Health and Medical Education Department will implement a complete paperless system in all government hospitals starting November 1, 2026. According to the Free Press Journal, the initiative will launch on Madhya Pradesh Foundation Day and include medical college-affiliated hospitals and local sub-health centres.

The new digital framework will manage OPD registrations, laboratory tests, doctor consultations, pharmacy services, diagnostics, and billing. Patients will receive their OPD registration slips digitally via SMS or other digital formats on their mobile phones.

The system will integrate with the Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) to allow digital access to medical records. Prescriptions will be sent directly to counters, and test requests will be updated automatically to save time and reduce confusion.

Gandhi Medical College (GMC) Dean Dr Kavita Singh said the institution has been running a pilot project for the last six months. She stated that the Medicine, Skin, and psychiatric departments have already adopted the system, with plans for gradual implementation across all departments.

Under the new process, government doctors will use tablets containing lists of available medicines to prescribe drugs to patients. Dr Singh said the digital slips will be sent directly to the relevant medical and paramedical staff.
