Karnataka Chief Minister pushes Mekedatu project and ARAI facility land in Mandya
Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar says the state has provided 2,500 acres of alternative forest land for the Mekedatu project.
Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar said on Saturday that the state has decided to provide alternative land for forest areas linked to the Mekedatu project. Speaking at an event in Mandya, where development works worth ₹1,793 crore were inaugurated, Shivakumar stated that 2,500 acres have already been made available to the Forest Department.
According to Urban Acres, the Chief Minister said a committee led by the deputy commissioner has been formed to support the implementation of the Mekedatu project. He added that details regarding the proposed alternative forest land would be published on the Forest Department’s portal and that land acquisition would begin once the Centre grants approval.
Shivakumar also addressed a dispute regarding an Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) facility in Mandya. He responded to allegations by Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy that the state was delaying land for the unit, stating the government is ready to provide the required site.
The Chief Minister noted that ARAI initially sought 100 acres but is now seeking 500 acres. He said the organisation’s officials should identify the necessary land and that the state would conduct acquisition if required.
During the event, Shivakumar also criticised the BJP and Janata Dal (Secular), alleging they opposed milk price increases intended to support farmers. He called for a strong Opposition to criticise government mistakes and offer suggestions.
