Tamil Nadu should have its own flag, says Aadhav Arjuna

Public Works Minister Aadhav Arjuna suggested a law be enacted to provide a state flag that gives prominence to the Tamil language.

Tamil Nadu Public Works Minister Aadhav Arjuna said on Sunday that the state should have its own flag, similar to other states, with prominence given to the Tamil language, according to The Hindu.

Speaking at a meeting to honour Tamil scholars on Tamil Nadu Day, Arjuna said a law should be passed to establish the flag. He suggested Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay should hoist it on November 1 and July 18.

The Minister stated that the flag should be flown at every house and that it could be created with a status matching the national flag to showcase the greatness of the Tamil language and people.

Arjuna also called for a change in the perception that only English provides employment, noting that schools promote this idea. He said the attitude of taking pride in speaking English should change, citing China and France as examples where people do not give up their mother tongues.

Reiterating support for a two-language policy, the Minister said English is necessary for commerce and trade. He suggested that children of MLAs, Ministers, and all IAS and IPS officers should study in the Tamil medium.
