Nara Lokesh promises strict action after chainsaw attack on student in Raptadu

The HRD and IT Minister visited the injured Class 10 student in a Bengaluru hospital on Sunday.

Andhra Pradesh HRD and IT Minister Nara Lokesh has promised strict action against those responsible for a chainsaw attack on a Class 10 student in Raptadu on Saturday. According to The Hindu, the Minister visited the student at Manipal Hospital in Bengaluru on Sunday to check on her medical condition.

The attack occurred around 10 a.m. at Raptadu Zilla Parishad High School when a youth entered the premises and assaulted the girl in her classroom. Mr. Lokesh stated that after being informed, he alerted the police and district health officials.

The student was first taken to a government hospital where medical staff spent nearly eight hours stabilising her. She was later moved to Bengaluru, where doctors performed a surgery lasting almost 12 hours before placing her in the intensive care unit.

Mr. Lokesh said the next 48 hours are critical for the student and asked for prayers for her recovery. He assured the family of government support and said the incident should not be politicised.

The Education Department has formed a team of 20 mental health counsellors to assist students who witnessed the assault. These counsellors have visited the homes of the 32 students in the affected section to address their anxiety and fear.
