Kumaraswamy challenges police and Karnataka government over sting operation probe
Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy said he would disclose investigation details on Monday after police linked his residence to a mobile phone exchange.
Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel HD Kumaraswamy challenged the Bengaluru Police Commissioner and the Karnataka government on Sunday following claims made during a sting operation investigation. The probe relates to two videos containing allegations against former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah that appeared on YouTube in September, according to the Times of India.
Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh said investigators found evidence that a mobile phone used in the alleged sting operation was purchased in Delhi's Karol Bagh. Singh stated that accused Ritesh Pandey and Vinod Sharma allegedly delivered the phone to Prajwal Prasad at Kumaraswamy's official residence on the instructions of Prasad.
Pandey was arrested in New Delhi on October 24 and is the first accused apprehended in the case. Police said technical evidence supports parts of his account, including the phone's purchase and delivery location, and they are verifying evidence of financial transactions between Pandey and Prasad.
Responding to the claims, Kumaraswamy told ANI that the government and its officials could not touch him. He questioned the commissioner's motives and said he would hold a press conference on Monday to explain the investigation and provide details on whom the government is trying to protect.
The Commissioner said notices were issued to Sharma and Prasad, but both are currently absconding and have approached the court for anticipatory bail. Police intend to oppose these applications while searching for the two men.
Karnataka Home Minister Priyank Kharge said on Sunday that technical evidence and crucial documents have emerged during the investigation. Kharge added that legal action would be taken against anyone involved, regardless of their position or influence.
