Mining and quarrying continue in Kaziranga despite Supreme Court order
Satellite imagery from September 29, 2026, shows widespread destruction and movement of stone-laden trucks in the Parkup Pahar range.
Mining and quarrying activities are continuing in the peripheral areas of Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve, despite directives from the Supreme Court and reminders from various authorities to the State government.
Satellite imagery dated September 29, 2026, accessed by The Assam Tribune, shows widespread destruction of a verdant area caused by continuous mining.
The images also reveal the large scale movement of stone-laden trucks in the area.
These activities are taking place in the Parkup Pahar range, which is a known wildlife habitat and a crucial wildlife corridor within the Kaziranga-Karbi Anglong Elephant Reserve.
The ongoing operations in this range violate a Supreme Court order dated April 12, 2019.
