Babil Khan recalls father Irrfan Khan making him use public transport to school

Actor Babil Khan shared how his father insisted he travel by bus, ferry and rickshaw despite the family owning several cars.

Actor Babil Khan recently recalled how his late father, Irrfan Khan, made him use public transport to reach school. Speaking to filmmaker Farah Khan in a vlog episode, Babil said he had to change between buses, ferries and rickshaws at least three times to get to school, according to a Times of India report.

Babil said he questioned his father about why he could not use the family's cars for the commute. He noted that he would often arrive at school when football practice was already underway.

The actor also spoke about his mother, writer Sutapa, who attended important school events when Irrfan was away shooting. Babil mentioned that his father used to shoot for eight months a year, which meant he could not always attend occasions like sports day or annual day.

Babil recalled an incident in Class 11 when he made a film with friends and his father could not attend because of work. He said both he and his father felt hurt, but Sutapa attended to represent the family.

Reflecting on his upbringing, Babil said he learned endurance and spiritual endurance from his father. He described Irrfan as someone who lived his life courageously and stuck to his values.

Irrfan Khan, known for films such as The Lunchbox and Maqbool, died on April 29, 2020, at the age of 53 after being treated for a rare neuroendocrine tumour.
