India engaging Russia, Ukraine and Europe on three conflict fronts, says Jaishankar

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar stated India is discussing civilian shipping safety, grain exports and energy infrastructure protection with relevant parties.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on Sunday that India is holding discussions with Russia, Ukraine and European countries regarding the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war. Speaking on the sidelines of the G20 foreign ministers' meeting in Atlanta, Jaishankar outlined three specific areas of engagement, according to the Times of India.

The first area involves ensuring the safety of civilian shipping and seafarers. Jaishankar stated that India is working to prevent attacks on these vessels.

The second priority is the restoration of grain shipments from both Russia and Ukraine. Jaishankar noted that these two nations are major global grain exporters and that exports through the Black Sea have declined sharply during the conflict.

The third area concerns the protection of energy infrastructure. Jaishankar described this as a complicated issue because different parties have different interpretations of what should be covered, such as refineries, electricity grids, or ships carrying fuel.

The minister said India is trying to facilitate dialogue between the involved parties to find common ground on these matters, particularly regarding energy infrastructure and fuel shipments.
