A depression in the southeast Bay of Bengal is expected to strengthen into a cyclonic storm within 24 hours.

A depression has developed over the southeast Bay of Bengal and is expected to intensify into a cyclonic storm within 24 hours, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). If the system becomes a cyclone, it would be named Murasu, Kalinga TV reported.

The system is likely to move west-north-westwards and could reach the Andhra Pradesh coast by Monday evening. It may deepen into a severe cyclonic storm and make landfall on the southern Andhra Pradesh coast between Nellore and Narasapur on the morning of November 3, with wind speeds of 100-110 kmph gusting to 120 kmph.

The Meteorological Department has forecast rain across several parts of Tamil Nadu over the next three days. Moderate rainfall is expected in the northern coastal belt, the Western Ghats districts, and interior districts including Madurai, Tiruchirappalli, Namakkal, Salem, Erode, and Karur on Sunday, according to The Hawk.

Heavy rain is forecast for Nilgiris and Tiruvallur on November 2, while Cuddalore and Villupuram are expected to receive heavy rain on both November 2 and November 3. In Chennai, skies are expected to remain partly cloudy on Sunday with light to moderate rain and thunderstorms possible in some parts of the city.

Significant to heavy rainfall is expected over most of coastal Andhra Pradesh, with very heavy rainfall predicted for southern and central Andhra Pradesh on November 2 and 3.
