Delhi CM approves 2,345 additional posts in Delhi Fire Services

The sanctioned workforce of the department will increase from 3,096 to 5,441 following the restructuring.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta approved the creation of 2,345 additional posts in the Delhi Fire Services (DFS) on Saturday, according to The Hindu and Hindustan Times.

The decision will increase the department's sanctioned workforce from 3,096 to 5,441. This represents the first major cadre restructuring for the department since it was established in 1942.

The new positions cover various ranks, including Deputy Chief Fire Officer, Divisional Officer, Assistant Divisional Officer, Station Officer, Sub-Officer, Leading Fireman, Fire Operator, Peon, and Gardener.

Ms. Gupta stated that the move is intended to bolster firefighting and rescue capabilities as the city faces challenges from a growing population, high-rise buildings, and expanding urban areas.

The Chief Minister noted that trained manpower and a strong leadership structure are vital for protecting lives and property during disasters.

Delhi Home Minister Ashish Sood said the restructuring would improve the department's capacity to respond to emergencies and provide a more robust institutional base.
