Police rescue 25 cattle being transported to Kerala for slaughter

The animals were intercepted near Maraimalai Nagar after a member of an animal care trust noticed leaks from a container truck.

Police rescued 25 cattle near Pazhavali, close to Maraimalai Nagar, on Saturday evening while they were being moved from Andhra Pradesh to Kerala for slaughter, according to The Hindu.

Sai Vignesh, president of Almighty Animal Care Trust, alerted authorities via an emergency helpline after seeing cow dung and urine leaking from a container truck in the Maraimalai Nagar area.

Officers intercepted the truck near Pazhavali following a chase. The animals were found tightly packed inside the container with minimal room to stand, and several had sustained injuries.

The vehicle reportedly had no sufficient ventilation or supplies of food and water, and the cattle's nose ropes were tied to the roof bars.

All 25 animals have been moved to Gosamrakshana Gaushala for care and medical attention.

Mr. Vignesh has filed a formal police complaint seeking action against those responsible for the transport.
