Andhra Pradesh commercial tax collections rise 20 per cent in October

Higher GST and petroleum VAT revenues led to the highest October collection since the introduction of GST, according to The Hindu.

Commercial tax collections in Andhra Pradesh grew by 20 per cent in October, according to a report by The Hindu.

Chief Commissioner of State Tax A. Babu said on Sunday that the increase was driven by higher petroleum VAT and GST revenues. He noted that this was the highest October collection recorded since GST was introduced.

Gross GST collections rose by 24 per cent, which exceeded the national growth rate of 16 per cent. State GST (SGST) collections increased by 21 per cent, while petroleum VAT revenue saw a 23 per cent rise.

Net GST collections, which include the State’s share of IGST settlements, went up 19 per cent compared to October last year. Cumulative commercial tax collections for the April-October period increased by 18 per cent over the previous year.

A. Babu attributed the growth to better tax compliance, stricter enforcement, and the application of AI and Data Analytics to find tax discrepancies and check returns. He added that iron and steel, automobiles, plastics, and construction services were major contributors to the GST growth in October.
