Karnataka CM to seek legal framework for state flag

Chief Minister D K Shivakumar said the government intends to fly the Kannada flag alongside the national flag on government buildings.

Karnataka Chief Minister D K Shivakumar said on Sunday that the state government intends to establish a legal framework to fly the yellow and red Kannada flag alongside the national flag on government buildings.

Speaking at a Karnataka Rajyotsava gathering, Shivakumar stated that the government is working towards granting official state flag status to the symbol.

The Chief Minister said the matter will be discussed during the winter session of the Legislature in Belagavi, which is scheduled from November 30 to December 11 at the Suvarna Soudha.

Shivakumar noted that while a previous Cabinet decision had requested recognition from the Union government, no recognition was received.

He said the aspiration is to have an official flag representing the self-respect of Kannadigas, similar to the state anthem.

The Chief Minister also mentioned that the government is taking steps to strengthen public education, including introducing AI training from Class 6 to Class 12.
