Agriculture graduates end 42-day strike after talks with Minister Javed Dar

Unemployed graduates in Jammu and Kashmir ended their agitation following assurances from Agriculture Minister Javed Ahmad Dar regarding recruitment proposals.

Unemployed agriculture graduates in Jammu and Kashmir called off their 42-day strike on Sunday after meeting with Agriculture Minister Javed Ahmad Dar, according to Greater Kashmir.

The minister assured the protesters that their genuine demands would be addressed soon. He told Kashmir News Service that the government is committed to resolving the concerns of the graduates and will hold further discussions to settle outstanding issues.

During the meeting, Dar proposed a 50:50 recruitment formula for gazetted posts, where half the positions are for direct recruitment and the other half for departmental candidates. He also suggested merging the Agriculture Extension Assistant and Junior Agriculture Extension Officer posts into a single cadre at the panchayat level without reducing their combined strength.

A representative of the delegation said the meeting was constructive and that the graduates were ending the agitation based on the minister's assurances. The group noted that the proposals require more discussion before a final decision is reached.

The graduates stated they would monitor the progress of these assurances until their demands are formally met. The delegation also expressed thanks to the Vice-Chancellor of SKUAST-Kashmir and the Director Agriculture Kashmir for their support during the protest.
