Tamil Nadu government to consider separate state flag

Minister Rajmohan said the government would consider a distinct flag similar to those used by Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.

The Tamil Nadu government will consider introducing a separate flag for the state, according to reports by ANI and The Hindu on Sunday.

Minister Rajmohan told the media that the government intends to take steps regarding a distinct state flag following the official recognition of November 1 as Tamil Nadu Day.

He noted that the flag would be similar to those adopted by Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and other states.

Public Works Minister Aadhav Arjuna also spoke on Sunday, suggesting that a law should be enacted to provide for the flag.

Arjuna said Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay should hoist the flag on November 1 and July 18, and that it should be hoisted at every house.

The Minister added that the flag should give prominence to the Tamil language to proclaim the greatness of Tamils.

Additionally, Minister Rajmohan stated that Chief Minister Joseph Vijay would soon consider a proposal to declare November 1 a public holiday across the state.
