Wayanad: 149 families allotted houses in second phase of township project

The houses for Mundakkai-Chooralmala landslide survivors will be ready for occupation by November 30, 2026, according to Revenue Minister A.P. Anilkumar.

A total of 149 families affected by the Mundakkai-Chooralmala landslides were allotted houses in the second phase of a rehabilitation township in Wayanad on Saturday. Revenue Minister A.P. Anilkumar announced the allotment during a draw of lots held at Meppadi, as reported by The Hindu and Hindustan Times.

The Minister stated that the houses will be ready for occupation by November 30, 2026. He added that financial support for disaster survivors living in rented houses has been extended until December.

Of the 149 houses allotted in this phase, 106 are in Zone 5, 23 in Zone 1, 14 in Zone 4, and six in Zone 3. The allotment included eligible beneficiaries from Phase 2A, Phase 2B, and an appeal list.

Agriculture Minister T. Siddique said construction work would continue until November 20. He noted that arrangements are in place to provide electricity, drinking water connections, and land ownership documents to the beneficiaries.

Following an assessment meeting, beneficiaries can visit their allotted houses and submit written complaints. Further work will be undertaken after these complaints are examined.

In the first phase of the township project at Elston Estate in Kalpetta, 178 houses were previously handed over to beneficiaries.
