Tamil Nadu: CM Vijay announces 3 per cent DA hike for employees

The Dearness Allowance for state government employees and teachers will increase to 63 per cent with retrospective effect from July 1.

Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay has announced a three per cent increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) for state government employees and teachers, according to a Deccan Chronicle report.

The DA rates will rise to 63 per cent from the previous 60 per cent, effective from July 1. This decision will result in an extra annual cost of Rs 1,858 crore for the state government.

An official press release on Saturday stated that the move recognises the services of employees and teachers who helped implement welfare schemes under the current TVK government.

The Chief Minister decided to match the DA rates set by the Union government, which also increased its rates from 60 per cent to 63 per cent from July.

The measure is intended to benefit 16 lakh government employees, teachers, pensioners, and family pensioners. The release noted this would allow them to celebrate the upcoming Deepavali festival with fervour.
