VFX supervisors urge support for Ramayana despite online criticism
Motion designers Yashoda Parthasarthy and Vijesh Rajan say the film should be backed to help Indian filmmakers reach global audiences.
VFX supervisors Yashoda Parthasarthy and Vijesh Rajan have called out online criticism regarding the visual effects of the Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Ramayana, according to a Hindustan Times report.
Vijesh Rajan, who has worked on Sacred Games and Farzi, said the film is being released globally on an unprecedented scale with collaborations from AR Rahman and Hans Zimmer.
Rajan stated that the Indian audience should support such endeavours regardless of flaws, noting that a project of this scale could open doors for other Indian filmmakers to reach international audiences.
He also mentioned that while criticism is necessary, trolling and certain ways people speak can be off-putting to filmmakers.
Yashoda Parthasarthy, who worked on Raman Raghav 2.0 and Ghoul, said comparing Indian films to Marvel or Avengers movies is unfair as those films have 10x the budget.
Parthasarthy noted that a lot of work goes into making visual effects look photoreal and called for more empathy towards the thousands of people working on such projects.
