Three Kuki men killed in Manipur Noney district gunfight
The victims were identified as village volunteers following an exchange of fire with unidentified armed groups on Saturday.
Three Kuki men were killed during an exchange of fire with unidentified armed groups at Kekru Naga village in Manipur's Noney district on Saturday, according to The Indian Express and Scroll.
The victims have been identified by police as Thanglensang Singson, Thangkhosei Haokip, and Lamminsang Kipgen, all from Churachandpur district.
The Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM), an apex body for the Kuki community, stated the deceased were village volunteers and accused Naga militant groups, specifically the NSCN-IM and ZUF(K), of the killings.
KIM accused authorities of failing to protect vulnerable Kuki-Zo communities and demanded accountability and state intervention to prevent further violence.
In a separate incident, Manipur Police reported on Sunday that two Kuki civilians who had been missing from Taphou Kuki village since Wednesday were found dead.
The police have increased security in the area following the Saturday shootout, which reportedly lasted for several hours in the forested village.
