Greater Bengaluru Authority to develop Central Silk Board Junction
Minister Krishna Byre Gowda launched the ‘Ward One’ campaign to improve infrastructure and traffic movement across 43 wards.
The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) is planning a makeover of the Central Silk Board Junction after Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda directed officials to create a permanent development plan for the hub, according to The Hindu.
Mr. Gowda issued these directions during an inspection of the junction on Saturday. He also launched the ‘Ward One’ campaign by starting the painting of flyover pillars, a programme intended for 43 wards under five city corporations to improve junctions and ward-level infrastructure.
The Minister noted that lakhs of commuters use the junction daily, where projects such as the metro, flyover, Outer Ring Road, and the NHAI elevated road converge. He instructed GBA officials to set aside funds for the junction's development.
Proposed amenities for the area beneath the flyover include seating, recreational facilities, a throwball court, and potential table tennis facilities. Other plans include a public toilet, improved footpaths, a pedestrian walkway alongside the drain, and a steel grid over the stormwater drain.
During the inspection, Mr. Gowda criticised Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) officials after observing sewage entering the stormwater drain. He also told officials to plan a new drain from the junction towards HSR Layout to prevent flooding and to coordinate this with the white-topping project.
