A weather system in the Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by November 2.
Andhra Pradesh may face another severe cyclonic storm next week, according to reports from The Hindu, The Indian Express and The New Indian Express. The weather system, which originated as a low-pressure area over the south Andaman Sea, is expected to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by November 2.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that the system may move west-northwestwards and cross the Andhra Pradesh coast between Nellore and Narsapur in the early hours of November 3. The cyclone, which will be identified as Murasu once developed, is expected to have maximum wind speeds of 100 to 110 kmph gusting to 120 kmph.
The IMD noted that the system intensified into a depression on Saturday. It is expected to reach the Andhra Pradesh coast around the evening of November 2. Central Andhra Pradesh is likely to be affected by the storm.
The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) said scattered moderate to heavy rainfall is expected in Krishna, Guntur, Bapatla, Prakasam, Markapuram and Nellore districts on November 1. On November 2, scattered heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in Eluru, West Godavari, NTR, Krishna, Guntur, Bapatla, Palnadu, Prakasam, Markapuram, Nellore and Tirupati districts.
The system follows Cyclone Arnab, which made landfall along the Kakinada-Narsapur coast during the intervening night of October 27 and 28. Fishermen have been advised to stay off the coast from November 2 to 4 due to rough sea conditions.
